I help scientists at all levels convey the impact of their research with clarity and
confidence. As an editor, I help you develop your ideas, organize and refine text,
and format your work for submission. As a communication coach, I guide you on your journey toward writing or presenting with confidence.

Writing and editing
I provide developmental and/or copy editing services for any written material, including
papers, book chapters, grant proposals, dissertations, and job applications.
Talks and poster presentations
I provide feedback on slide decks and posters. You can also book a virtual session to practice
your talk with me.
Academic writing mentorship
If you want to improve your own writing skills, I provide detailed guidance and support
throughout your writing process. I can also provide organizational and accountability
services to keep you on task for large projects, such as writing up a Ph.D. thesis.

How Does the Process Work?
Meet Dr. Katharine Borges
I am a neuroscientist with a background in two-photon imaging, tetrode and patch-clamp electrophysiology, quantitative rodent behavior, and molecular engineering. I hold a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and have conducted postdoctoral research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Northwestern University, Janelia Research Campus (Howard Hughes Medical Institute), and UC Berkeley.
Throughout my research career, colleagues have routinely sought me out to to help write and edit grants, papers, research statements, and job applications. In 2026 I started Synapse to Sentence Consulting to offer editorial support and communication coaching for scientists.
